Google Chat
Send Guard risk alerts at or above a chosen severity to a Google Chat space through a webhook.
Guard integrates with workplace messaging services to send push notifications for specified alerts. This guide walks you through setting up a Google Chat webhook integration with Guard.
Setting up the Google Chat Webhook
In a browser, open Google Chat. Webhooks aren't configurable from the Chat mobile app. Go to the space where you want to add a webhook.
Next to the space title, click the expand more arrow.
Click Apps & integrations.
Click +Add webhooks.
Note: If you can't click the button, your Google Workspace organization doesn't let users add or use webhooks. For details, see Allow users to install Chat apps in the Google Workspace Admin Help documentation.
In the Name field, enter an appropriate name for the webhook.
In the Avatar URL field, enter an avatar if desired.
Click Save.
To copy the webhook URL, click More, and then click Copy link.
Warning: Don't share your webhook URL online, such as in a public code repository, as this compromises its security.
Configuring Guard
- In Guard, go to Settings > Notifications.
- On the Chat Messaging card, click Add Integration, then select Google Chat.
- Paste the webhook URL into the Webhook URL field.
- In Severity, choose the minimum risk severity that triggers a notification. The default is Medium, which sends Medium, High, and Critical risks.
- Click Connect.
Guard then posts a message to the space for each new risk at or above the selected severity. The connected webhook is listed on the Chat Messaging card, where you can view or disconnect it.
